The challenge

Robert Mondavi Private Selection wines had the holiday season in mind when they came to us looking for a sweet partner. But not just any dessert would do: they wanted a partner ready to take center stage on a Christmas party snack platter. So we got to work making the match, focused on finding a brand that was merry and bright.

The solution

Brownie Brittle fans already know how well the dessert pairs with wine. But it was time to go tell it on the mountain. Brownie Brittle is a crave-able snack for lovers of the crispy, outer edge of brownies. These snacks are designed to be delicious, but (bonus) are also diet friendly. Perfect for holiday indulging with a little less guilt! Robert Mondavi Private Selection wines were adorned with a coupon offering consumers $1.50 off a 4-ounce or larger bag of Brownie Brittle.

The results

It was a nationwide celebration, featured at retailers including Walmart, CVS, Safeway and Albertson’s. And to take the holiday cheer to the next level, the memorable pairing included a crafty ugly-sweater koozie to dress up the occasional bottle of Robert Mondavi Private Selection. Key to cross-merch success is visibility, and that’s another reason why this pair was such a hit. With two displays in some stores — one near the sweet snacks and one in the wine section — nothing could hold back the holiday spirit duo. Both brands got lots of out-of-aisle attention. Ugly sweaters and snowflake-drizzled Brownie Brittle? We knew this would be one to remember.
